Landscape Tips From Texas Country Farm Supply, More Than Just A Feed Store....

Here is a long list of things you can and need to do in February to improve your landscape:

◦ Prune and fertilize peach trees ◦ Check trees and shrubs for scale insects, and treat with horticultural oil if present ◦ Prune roses in February. ◦ Move shrubs or young trees to a new location if you want to relocate. ◦ Cut back perennials and ornamental grasses before new growth begins ◦ Fertilize pansies and other cool season flowers ◦ Turn your compost pile ◦ Apply pre-emergent herbicide in mid- to late February to lawns for weed control in areas where weeds were a problem last year.  Remember, a preemergent herbicide will not control existing weeds. ◦ Best time to fertilize St. Augustine and Bermuda grass lawns is April, not February. ◦ Clean your Purple Martin boxes. Scouts will show up in early March and they are "clean freaks". ◦ Check narrow-leaf evergreens and roses for bagworm pouches and remove. The insect eggs overwinter in the pouch, and the removal and discarding of the pouches reduces future damage.
